Michel Delacroix was born in the 14th district of Paris on 26th February 1933. Delacroix’s early years growing up in the romantic city of Paris would not only inspire him to paint but also ignite a life-long passion to create the most unique paintings of Paris life. Delacroix studied at the Lycée Louis-Le-Grand and later studied theatre design before becoming a professor at Le Havre in 1961. It was not until 1973 that Delacroix held his first exhibitions at the Salon d’Automne, Salon Comparison and the Salon des Indépendents and again in 1975 at the Salon Mondial de la Peinture Naïve and the Salon Des Artistes Français. In 1980, Delacroix travelled to America and held a number of sell-out exhibitions in New York, Washington, Boston and Los Angeles. Delacroix’s paintings have remained incredibly popular in the United States and are highly sought after by collectors around the world. Michel Delacroix’s paintings are rich in colour and draw the viewer into his whimsical world of day to day Parisian life. His paintings are playful and foster a charming manner depicting romantic Paris from the early 20th Century. We like to refer to Michel Delacroix as the ‘Lowry of Paris’ due to their naive style and focus on city life as the subject. Delacroixs’ works are held in private and corporate collections around the world and can also be found in museums and galleries such as the Musée d’Art Naïf Paris.
