Simon Gudgeon was born in Yorkshire in 1958. He grew up in the countryside on the family farm.  This gave Gudgeon an early understanding of nature and the surrounding wildlife and became a core part of his sculptural works. Before becoming a professional artist, Gudgeon studied Law at Reading University and later became a solicitor. It was only in his thirties that Gudgeon started to paint more seriously. At the age of 40, Gudgeon was inspired to work with clay and his career as a sculptor was born.  Simon Gudgeon is now regarded as one the UK’s leading sculptors; his works are primarily cast into bronze and favours subjects such as wildlife and figurative works. Gudgeon has held successful exhibitions in London, New York, San Diego and Paris.  His sculptures are recognised throughout the world and work can be found in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. In 2009 Gudgeon unveiled a sculpture tiled ‘Isis’ which was permanently installed in London’s Hyde Park. The Prince of Wales was presented with a personal Isis sculpture in 2011 which is on display in the gardens of the Highgrove Estate. Further notable collectors include His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of Bedford and The Duke of Northumberland.
