Raymond Cyril Watson, was born in Ipswich on the 25th March 1935. Raymond studied at the Ipswich School of Art, after graduating art school, Watson embarked on a career in commercial and graphic art whilst pursuing an interest in the drawing and painting of wildlife. Watson specialised in ornithological subjects, birds in their natural surroundings. He was influenced by artists such as Archibald Thorburn and George Edward Lodge. Raymond Watson is a highly regarded wildlife artist, he held his first solo exhibition of British bird pictures with the Haste Gallery in Ipswich in 1969 and was a regular exhibitor at the Moorland Gallery, Cork Street, London and at Mandell’s Gallery, Norwich.
Raymond’s work is represented in the Ulster Natural History Museum and in 1971, won the Grand Prix at the International exhibition in Hungary. In 1986 Watson illustrated a book titled ‘Birds of the British Coast’. Watson’s work is collected by wildlife enthusiast in the UK, Europe and around the world.
