Harold Riley was born in Salford Manchester in 1934. He attended Salford Grammar School and in 1951 won a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art. Riley later went on to study in Florence, Italy and Spain, before returning to Salford and he was awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Salford. From a young age, Riley cemented a friendship with L.S Lowry, together they worked on subjects relating to Manchester life. Riley undertook some notable portrait commissions including Pope John XII, Prince Philip, John F Kennedy and Nelson Mandela. Harold Rileys’ works are highly collectible and can be found in corporate and private collections around the world.
