Roger Hampson was born in Tyldesley, Lancashire in 1925. He studied art at the Manchester College of Art 1946 – 1952 and thereafter became an art teacher at the Bolton College of Art & Design until 1986. During this time, Roger was elected president of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts 1969 – 1976. Roger Hampsons’ paintings are best known for his interpretation of working life in the North of England. Ageing mills, factories, coal mines and working folk going about their day to day lives were inspirational subjects for Hampson. He captured the true gritty environment of Northern towns which have inspired many artist over many decades. Roger Hampson passed away in 1996, his works can be found in public and private collections in the UK.
