Keith Hope Shackleton MBE was born on the 16th January 1923. He was a highly regarded artist, naturalist, author and television presenter. He was a very good friend of fellow conservationist and painter Sir Peter Markham Scott whom travelled together to the Antarctica. A retrospective exhibition of his polar studies depicting animals and their surroundings in the Arctic and Antarctic was held at the Scott Polar Research Institute in 2007. A passionate campaigner, Shackleton worked tirelessly on public awareness for endangered species and in 2013 he was awarded an MBE for his services to conservation of wildlife. Shackleton was also a past president of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and a founding member of the Society of Wildlife Artists.
