New work by Simon Whitfield

We are delighted to announce that Carnes Fine Art is collaborating with landscape and wildlife artist Simon Whitfield, adding a vibrant new collection to our spring exhibition.  Simons paintings are well composed, beautifully balanced and capture the landscape in its most pure and natural state, a true celebration of what the lake district has to offer. We have a fresh inventory which is now available in the gallery, for all clients that cannot make the exhibition, please feel free to contact us, as always we are more than happy to provide further assistance.

Artist biography

Artist Biography: Simon Whitfield is a landscape artist, noted for his mountainous paintings of the lake district. He was born in Bristol, later moving north to study Anthropology at Durham University.

Simon is a self-taught artist, initially studying works by the romantic painters of the 19th century, such as William Turner and other the great watercolourists of that period.

Simon’s life as an artist is one of constant adventure and renewal, an ongoing process of discovery. His subjects are inspired by the Lakeland rocks, hill fell crags and the Icelandic wilderness above the tree line lakes.

Influenced by British fell walker and author Alfred Wainwright, Simon aims to discover and compose the many visual aspects of the Lake District National Park.

Simon says “what inspires me most is this health-giving peace and solitude, a ringing primeval silence broken only by the iron hard hollow clank of a boot on scree and boulder, skylarks wheeling and the harsh metallic croak of ravens; exciting dawn and evening light effects and in particularly the mountainous rock which is the very foundation of both my paintings and the lake district itself.”

We look forward to welcoming you to our spring exhibition ongoing until 31st May. In the meantime, if you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the gallery.

I would like to wish everyone a happy Easter holiday.

Best wishes, Bradley
