Stephen Henderson is a highly skilled woodcarver specialising in shore birds and fish. Stephen lives and works from his coastal studio in Essex. His unique sculptures are inspired by the diverse wildlife which has surrounded him most of his life. He grew up close to the marshes of the East Essex coast which energized his passion for wildfowl and coastal birds. Stephen comes from an artistic family, his father was a renowned photographer and pop-artist and his mother grew up around the Bloomsbury Group. Stephen creates wonderful works from discarded wood and Eastern White Pine and like the well-known sculptor Guy Taplin (who has been a major influence on Stephen works) will hunt for washed up driftwood in order to best display his carved sculptures in the most natural way.
