Harold Riley

Harold Riley was born in Salford in 1934. He attended Salford Grammer School and in 1951 won a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art and later went on to study in Florence, Italy and Spain, before returning to Salford. He was awarded an honorary doctorate at the university of Salford, Manchester. Riley cemented a friendship with L.S Lowry, together they worked on subjects relating to Manchester life.  Riley undertook some notable portrait commissions including Pope John XII, Prince Philip, John F Kennedy and Nelson Mandela. Harold Riley’s work is highly collectible and is housed within corporate and private collections worldwide.
