Robert Angelo Kittermaster Marshall (1849-1923)

was born in London, England 1849. He was the son and pupil of the artist Charles Marshall (1806-1890) who began his early career as a stage designer for theatres in and around the capital. Charles later became a successful landscape painter, exhibiting between 1828-1884 at The Royal Academy, The Society of British Artists and The British Institute.

Robert Marshall became a very accomplished watercolourist, his paintings are well composed, delicately balanced and capture the landscape in a pure and natural form. He favoured landscapes in and around Sussex, Gloucestershire and especially Hampshire. Between 1867-1902 Marshall enjoyed a run of successful exhibitions at The Royal Academy, The New Watercolour Society and became a member of The Royal Society of British Artists.
